#23 women's tennis completes weekend sweep with 7-0 win at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The 23rd-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team completed a successful opening weekend of their spring season, defeating host Wheaton College, 7-0, without dropping a set.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges rolled to victory, losing no fewer than three games in eight of the nine matches.
  • Junior Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines / Laurel Springs School) won a pair of matches at #1, winning 6-2 at doubles with senior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy), and 6-0, 6-2, in singles.
  • First-year Milana Sofizade (Sarasota, Fla. / IMG Academy) had the easiest day of any Brandeis player, not dropping a single game in her two matches. She team with senior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Division) for a 6-0 win at #2 doubles and double-bageled her opponent at #5 singles.
  • First-year Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India / Cosmos Castle International School) won twice, including the longest of the six singles matches. She paired with junior Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India / Aavishkar School) for a 6-1 win at #3 doubles, then won a 6-2, 6-3, victory at #4 singles.
  • Reyes (6-0, 6-2 at #1), Budhbhatti (6-2, 6-1 at #2) and Zhang (6-0, 6-1 at #3) held down the top of the lineup.
  • First-year Galia Harmelin (Seattle, Wash. / University Prep) picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at #6 singles to round out the win.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges head to California for their annual February break trip, starting with a match at 3 p.m. Eastern/12 Pacific against Occidental College on Feb. 16.
