WELLELSEY, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis got the 2026-27 season started this weekend at the Wellesley Invitational.

Boasting seven newcomers, the Judges were led by one of them, Ellie Gerontikou (Athens, Greece/ACS Athens). She posted two singles wins against Babson (3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8) and Bates (8-2 in a pro-set) and a doubles win against Bates (6-3).

Classmate Beatriz Ohara (Anápolis, Brazil / Colegio Prepare ENEM) also picked up a singles win against the Beavers (1-6, 6-4, 10-4), coming from a set down. The Judges won seven of their 11 singles matches against Bates, with the matches forced indoors due to the rain of the day.

Sophomore Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India / Cosmos Castle International School) matched Geronitkou with an 8-2 win for the fewest games in their win. She teamed up with first-year Jillian Yang (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) for a 6-3 doubles win over Wellesley, the Judges' lone win in six doubles contests against the hosts.

Brandeis returns to action on the weekend of October 2 for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional at Bowdoin College.
