WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team kicked off its 2025-26 season at the Wellesley Invitational from Sept. 12-14. The Judges played a series of matches against the host Blue, as well as local rivals Babson and Trinity College.
Brandeis's top performer was first-year
Milana Sofizade (Sarasota, Fla./IMG Academy). She went 2-0 in singles action with wins over Babson (4-6, 6-4, 10-7) and Trinity (7-6 (7-4), 6-1) and 5-1 in doubles action with a host of partners. Her only defeat came at the hands of a Babson squad that boasted a two-time defending NCAA Division III doubles champion.
The Judges went 3-3 in doubles against Babson, getting wins from junior
Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines/Laurel Springs School) and senior
Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China/Shanghai International Division), first-years Sofizade and
Galia Harmelin (Seattle, Wash./University Prep), and Reyes and senior
Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y./International Virtual Learning Academy). The Beavers went 8-1 in singles the next day, with Sofizade earning the only Brandeis win.
Brandeis went 3-2 against Trinity in doubles play on Saturday, but the Judges bounced back to sweep the seven singles matches between the teams. The weekend ended with Wellesley taking three of five doubles showdowns, with Sofizade taking part in both wins, along side Reyes and sophomore
Charlie Saltz (Natick, Mass./Learning Post Academy).
The Judges return to action on Sept. 26
th with the ITA New England Regional championships at Middlebury College.
