WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University junior
Keller Chamovitz of
Sewickly, Pennsylvania, and sophomore
Daniel Shemesh of
Modiin, Israel, have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's soccer and men's tennis, respectively, for the week ending Oct. 12.
Chamovitz was named UAA Offensive Player of the Week for his dramatic goal for the #12-ranked Judges against #2-ranked Emory. Trailing 1-0 headed into the final minute of regulation, the Judges' pressure resulted in Chamovitz scoring an equalizer with just 21.3 seconds left on the clock. Brandeis had a shot at a game-winner go just wide of the post as time expired. The Judges also picked up a 1-0 win over Anna Maria College earlier in the week.
Chamovitz, a transfer from Lycoming College in Pennsylvania, has two goals this season, with a game-winner over Wesleyan University on Sept. 16. He is tied for fifth on the roster with four points.
With an 8-1-3 record, 0-1-1 in the UAA, the Judges are off to their best start since 2014. Their #12 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Division III poll is their highest during the season since 2017, when they went to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. The Judges return to action on Oct. 18 at the University of Rochester for another UAA contest.
Shemesh earned UAA Men's Tennis player of the week honors for the second time this season thanks to his performance at the James Wallach Invitational at Bates College over the weekend. Shemesh went undefeated with a pair of singles wins and three in doubles with first-year partner
Muaz Malik of Dubai, U.A.E.
The Brandeis men's tennis team will continue their 2025-26 campaign in February with their annual spring break trip to California.
