Feingold's three-point night helps Judges earn 2-2 draw with Mass Maritime

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University junior midfielder Yoav Feingold (Wellesley, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) had a goal and an assist tonight to help the men's soccer team finish in a 2-2 draw with visiting Mass. Maritime Academy on Gordon Field in the Judges' non-conference finale.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 3-6-3.
  • Mass. Maritime, 5-1-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a game that opened in a downpour and saw some sloppy play, Brandeis broke the ice in the 39th minute. From near the midfield line, Feingold found senior Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y./Milton Academy) streaking to goal. Chuang ran onto the ball and went to goal, burying his shot into the bottom left.
  • The goal was Chuang's team-leading fourth of the season.
  • MMA equalized just over four minutes later, shortly before halftime, in the 43rd minute. The Buccaneers earned a free kick deep in the offensive zone, and John Burke connected with jack Turmel's head, and Turmel deposited it inside the near post.
  • The visitors scored a go-ahead goal in the 55th minute. After another deep free kick ricocheted around the box, Noah Eggers delivered a hard volley just inside the left post to put MMA ahead, 2-1, on just their second shot on goal of the game.
  • Brandeis responded with aggression, and it paid off in the 66th minute. The Judges earned a free kick about 25 yards from goal on the left flank. Senior Maddox Yu (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) delivered a ball to the far right post, and Feingold was on the spot to redirect it home.
  • The goal was Feingold's first of the season and the third of his career, while Yu took the team lead with his third assist of the campaign.
  • Brandeis outshot MMA, 10-0, the rest of the way, but the Bucs' Preston Joia made a couple of nice saves to help preserve the draw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandeis outshot Mass Maritime, 21-6, including 9-2 in shots on goal.
  • The Judges also enjoyed an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, but Brandeis was whistled for eight fouls to the Buccaneers' 4.
  • Joia made seven saves, five of which game after Brandeis's equalizer. Brandeis sophomore Sotiri Tiglianidis (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) was not credited with any saves for the Judges.
