BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Brandeis University women's tennis team spent its weekend competing at the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional championships at Bowdoin College.
The Judges' best result in the 'A' singles draw came from sophomore
Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India / Cosmos Castle International School). Chitale won her first-round match against Lucy Belval of Gordon College, 6-2, 6-1. She met eventual semifinalist and eighth seed Katie Driscoll of MIT in the second round and fell, 6-2, 6-1.
In the 'B' draw, sophomore
Milana Sofizade (Sarasota, Fla. / IMG Academy) earned a first-round win against Kaitlyn Wu of Williams, 8-4, but fell to the fourth seed, Sarai Dorismond of Babson, by the same score. Dorismond went on to make the semifinals of that draw. First-year
Beatriz Ohara (Anápolis, Brazil / Colegio Prepare ENEM) also picked up a first-round win, 8-2, over Kendall Skully of Colby, before falling to the eighth seed, Pavith Khara of host Bowdoin.
Two of the Judges' four doubles teams also made it to the second round. Chitale and senior
Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India / Aavishkar School) downed the team of Grove and Khera from Bowdoin, 8-3, before losing to the top-seeded squad from Babson, 8-0. Ohara paired with sophomore
Galia Harmelin (Seattle, Wash. / University Prep) to take out another Bowdoin tandem, Ross and Moldenhauer, 8-7 (7-5), before falling to the seventh seeds from Wesleyan, 8-3.
The Judges will return to Bowdoin Oct. 9-11 for the Bowdoin Invitational to wrap up their fall season.
