CLEVELAND, Ohio – Brandeis University first-year
Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School) earned her second first-team All-America honor of the year in the triple jump today, finishing in fifth place at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Cleveland, Ohio.
Sealy, who was seeded second in the event, jumped 11.75 meters on her first attempt and fouled on her second, leaving her in 12
th place headed into her final attempt of the prelims. On that third attempt, Sealy rose six places with a distance of 12.05 meters to improve to sixth place and a spot in the finals. After jumping 11.73 meters on her fourth jump and just missing improving her position with a leap of 12.04 meters on her fifth, Sealy had her best attempt on her final leap, going 12.28 meters (40 feet, ½ inches). She was temporarily in fourth place, but Tufts senior Jordan Andrew edged Sealy out on her final jump by one centimeter. That pushed Sealy into fifth place, matching her placement at the indoor championships, as she finished just two centimeters ahead of Kacey Kelly of Lynchburg.
Sealy was the highest-placing first-year in the event as one of two underclassmen among the top five, along with Imani Ogunribido of Illinois Wesleyan, the event champion.
With the four points scored by Sealy at the meet, the Judges finished in a tie for 52
nd place in the team standings with six other teams, out of 80 teams who scored points at the championships.
