Seven earn All-New England honors at D3 Outdoor Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field team's outdoor season continued this weekend at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield College. The Judges had seven scoring performances as the women finished in 11th place with 22.5 points and the men came in 28th with five points.

TOP PERFORMERS – WOMEN
  • The women's team earned All-New England honors in five events. Leading the way was graduate student Shae Regan (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), who took bronze in the 5,000-meter run. Her personal best time of 17:22.49 was about 18 seconds out of second place and nine ahead of fourth.
  • Also earning bronze in a distance event was senior Ella Warkentine (Berywn, Pa./Conestoga), who ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:25.70, three seconds off her p.r. Warkentine was in fourth place for much of the race, but closed with the fastest lap of the race to edge a competitor from Endicott by half a second at the tape.
  • The distance squad also provided a fourth-place finisher, as senior Calli Morvay (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run. She shaved 50 seconds off her previous best time with a mark of 39:58.17. Morvay had an excellent second half of the race, moving from ninth place into scoring position at the 6000-meter mark and staying in the top eight the rest of the, moving into fourth in the final kilometer.
  • The Judges' 4x800-meter relay also placed fourth with a time of 9:40.17. The quartet of grad student Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover), sophomore Lily McNulty (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls), first-year Melissa Keenan (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) and Warkentine finished three seconds shy of bronze and best Wellesley by a second.
  • Junior Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) rounded out the scorers by tying for eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters (5-1 ¾).
TOP PERFORMERS – MEN
  • The men's squad had two scoring events. Sophomore Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) took 12 seconds off his personal best in the steeplechase with a time of 9:36.68. Cook settled into fourth place on the third lap and maintained his position for the remainder of the race.
  • The throws squad added a fifth-place finish from junior Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman). Krause threw 53.86 meters (176-8) on his first throw of the meet and maintained his scoring position to claim his All-New England honor.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges will try to improve their NCAA Championship qualifying performances next weekend at the FIRE Invitational at Williams College.
