Sealy leaps into NCAA contention as outdoor track competes at Georgia Tech and MIT

ATLANTA, GA and CAMBRIDGE, MA – The judges split up this weekend, with some staying local at the Sean Collier Invite at MIT, and a few heading to the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. The Judges saw many PRs and new all-time marks, as they tuned up and prepared for UAAs. 

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

GEORGIA TECH
  • Sophomore Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School) launched herself to number seventeen in DIII triple jumping 11.73 meters (38'5.8") for 14th place. This mark puts her in the running for the NCAA outdoor championship.
  • The women's 4x100 team of Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School), Sealy, first-year Izzy Ross (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), and sophomore Jazmin Berganza (Providence, R.I./Classical) battled out a season's best time of 48.08 for 15th place, replacing their #2 all-time mark for Brandeis and putting them at 49th in DIII. They finished half a second behind UAA opponent Emory. 
  • First-year Ashley Korbul (Staten Island, N.Y. / New Dorp) raced 12.61 in the 100-meter dash, earning 81st, taking 0.5 seconds off her PR, continuing her 3-meet streak of PRing in the 100. This replaces her number seven all-time mark for Brandeis set last weekend.
  • Korbul also placed third in high jump with her mark of 1.62m, placing her at 31st in DIII.
  • In the 400 meter dash, Leroy raced 56.54 for 28th place, earning 31st in DIII.
MIT
  • Junior Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) ran 4:44 in the 1500-meter race, trimming 3 seconds off her PR from Amherst. Her time was good for 15th overall in the seeded section. 
  • Sophomore Lily McNulty (S. Glens Falls, N.Y / S. Glens Falls) smashed her 1500-meter PR, racing 4:49 for fourth place. This is a 6-second improvement from her previous best.  
  • Continuing the streak, senior Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) saw a 6-second PR of 5:02 for 15th place and senior Calli Morvay (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) achieved a 3-second PR off her 1500-meter time, running 5:20 for 28th place.
  • First-Year Andrea Georgiou (Nicosia, Cyprus / Nicosia) took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:08.98 and earning a PR of 0.43 seconds.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

MIT
  • Junior Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass. / BC High) clocked a 9-second PR in the 1500-meter race, running 3:54 for 11th place overall in the seeded section. This time puts him at number ten all-time for Brandeis. 
  • Junior Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass / Concord-Carlisle Regional) threw third place in discus, with his mark of 43.45 meters (142'6.6").
  • First-Year Nate Phillip (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) jumped 6.11 meters (20' 0.5") in the long jump, earning third place. 
  • Junior Kevin Wright (Concord, Mass. / Concord Carlisle Regional) launched a hammer throw of 46.32 meters (151' 11.9"), earning a 0.75 meter PR and fourth place. His throw replaced his number 5 all-time mark for Brandeis. 
  • Sophomore Eli Wawersik (Westborough, Mass / Westborough)  bounded to a 110-meter hurdle PR, running 15.51 seconds for sixth place. This marked a 0.33 improvement on his record and put him at number 4 all-time for Brandeis
  • First-year Sandy Cloud (Farmington, Conn / Kingswood Oxford) tore 0.06 second of his 100-meter time, racing 11:23 for 14th place. 
  • In the 800-meter race, sophomore James Waters (North Merrick, N.Y. / Wellington C. Mepham HS) earned second with his time of 1:57.31, taking 0.29 seconds off his PR. Licklider followed in fifth, running 1:57.99 for his first collegiate 800 race. 

GEORGIA TECH
  • Junior Sam Krause (New Orleans, La. / Isidore Newman)  represented the men's team at Georgia Tech, competing in javelin. He threw 54.50 meters (178'9.6"), earning 13th place.

UP NEXT - Judges travel to Case Western Reserve University to face off at the UAA outdoor track championships.
