Track wraps up weekend at MIT

Cambridge, MA.---The Brandeis men's and women's track and field teams took advantage of beautiful, warm weather this weekend at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational, a meet that featured strong competition from across Division I, II, and III programs. The Judges rose to the occasion, earning a wave of personal bests, top finishes, and Division III New England qualifying marks across a wide range of events. With momentum building, the team continues to fine-tune performances as the championship season approaches.

Women's

Track Events

  • In the 1500-meter, junior Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) placed fourth overall, running a personal best of 4:47.81 a Division III New England qualifier. Batelli followed with another personal best of 4:54.70, and senior Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) clocked 4:57.12, also a personal best.

  • In the 200-meter dash, senior Hailey Crane (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) ran a personal best of 27.09 seconds, while junior Ifigenia Oxyzolou (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) clocked a personal best of 29.80.

  • Senior Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) set a personal best of 2:30.29 in the 800-meter run.

  • Sophomore Calli Morvay (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) placed sixth in the 5000-meter with a time of 20:47.53.

  • In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) placed ninth, running 1:10.18.

Field Events

  • Junior Aiana Colas (Strasbourg, France/Le Gymnase Jean Sturm) cleared 1.58 meters (5'2.25") in the high jump, earning third place and a Division III New England qualifying mark. Sophomore Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) placed sixth with a jump of 1.53 meters (5'0.25").

  • In the triple jump, senior Kirsten Man (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) landed a mark of 10.21 meters (33'6").

  • Junior Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo./Ralston Valley) cleared 3.43 meters (11'3") in the pole vault, placing ninth.

Men's

Track Events

  • In the 100-meter dash, senior Jordan Colon (Devens, Mass./Bromfield School) ran a personal best of 10.74 seconds, placing seventh, and junior Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C./Woodside Priory School) also set a personal best with 10.99.

  • The 200-meter dash saw three personal bests. Starting with senior Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) ran 22.82, first-year Jaiden Banton (Kingston, Jamaica/Woodstock Academy) ran 23.14, and sophomore Sam Rosen (Dallas, Texas/Lakehill Preparatory School) finished in 23.22.

  • Senior Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Vocational Tech) clocked 1:58.54 in the 800-meter, a personal best. Junior Dylan Zhao (Staten Island, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) ran a personal best of 2:00.26, and first-year James Waters (North Merrick, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) followed with a personal best of 2:02.86.

  • In the 1500-meter, first-year Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) led the Judges with a personal best of 4:08.50. Senior Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) (4:11.11), senior Dylan Whalen (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) (4:24.05), and first-year Aidan Shames (Inwood, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics) (4:32.75) all ran their personal bests as well.

  • Senior Erik Lopez (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) ran 17:31.33 for 10th place in the 5000-meter.

  • In the 400-meter hurdles, first-year Eli Wawersik (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) ran 57.89 to finish fifth.

  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Colon, Yue, Krigman, and Rosen ran 43.28 to finish third overall.

FIeld Events 

  • In the pole vault, first-year Alex Chan (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) placed 10th with a clearance of 3.97 meters (13'0.25").

  • In the triple jump, senior Lin Lin Hutchinson (Portland, Ore./Ida B. Wells) placed fifth with a jump of 5.55 meters (18'2.5").

  • Senior Cam Pierce (Kittery, Maine/Portsmouth Christian Academy) placed third in the shot put with a mark of 13.49 meters (44'3.25"), and sophomore Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Regional) was ninth at 12.58 meters (41'3.25").

  • In the discus, Laurin threw a personal best of 39.65 meters (130'1"), placing seventh.

  • Sophomore Kevin Wright (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Regional) threw a personal best of 38.38 meters (125'11") in the hammer throw.

  • Sophomore Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman) threw 54.67 meters (179'4") in the javelin, a strong mark as he continues his consistent season.

 

UP NEXT

  • The Judges will head to New York University for the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where they'll face off against conference rivals in one of the most competitive meets of the season.
