CHICAGO, Ill. – The Brandeis University indoor track and field teams had one All-Association honor and one school record among six scoring performances on Day One of the 2025 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Chicago.
ALL-ASSOCIATION – ALISHA ANDERSON, WOMEN'S POLE VAULT
- Among the 10 scored events today, the Judges had one top-three performance to earn All-UAA honors. Junior pole vaulter Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo./Ralston Valley) turned in her first career All-Association honor with a third-place finish with a height of 3.48 meters (11 feet, 5 inches).
- The height tied with three other competitors, but Anderson cleared her first three heights without a miss to earn the tiebreaker and a top-three All-UAA finish.
- Anderson is Brandeis's first All-UAA women's pole vaulter since 2006, when Jane Farrell '06 finished second.
SCHOOL RECORD – PETERLY LEROY, WOMEN'S 400M
- The Judges' school record came in the 400-meter dash. First-year soccer standout Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) competing in just her fourth collegiate meet, rank the two preliminary laps of the 400-meter run in 57.30 seconds.
- Leroy eclipsed the school record set in 2002 by Jessica Curlew '03 by 0.36 seconds. She was second to the sixth-fastest time in Division III by turning the 19th-ranked time in the nation.
- In addition to Leroy, senior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) qualified for the finals in the seventh slot with a time of 59.18 seconds.
OTHER INDIVIDUAL SCORING PERFORMANCES
- Individually, the Judges had three other scoring performances. For the women, junior captain Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan Phillips Exeter Academy) scored at UAAs for the second time in her career, and first indoors, with a fifth feet -place finish in the 20-pound weight throw. Her distance of 14.08 meters (46, 2 ½ inches) was her first scoring event at UAAs.
- Junior Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Acad.) placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.36 meters (17 feet, 7 inches). This was her sixth career scoring finish at UAAs, but first indoors in the long jump. She set a PR by 0.15 meters.
- Sophomore Kevin Wright (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle Regional) had the lone individual scoring performance for the men, placing seventh in the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 13.30 meters (43 feet, 7 ¾ inches).
OTHER FINALISTS
- The Judges will send two other performers to tomorrow's finals from the prelims today, both in the men's 800-meter run. Juniors Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) placed third in the prelims with a season-best time of 1:54.94, while TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) was fourth in 1:55.63.
SCORING RELAYS
- Both men's and women's distance medley relays finished in seventh place. The women's team of senior Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover), senior Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South), junior Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and sophomore Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) turned in a time of 12:38.34, finishing six seconds behind Emory.
- The men's quartet of graduate student Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Vocational Tech), junior TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North), first-year James Waters (North Merrick, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) and first-year Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) finished eight seconds behind NYU with a time of 10:55.14.
UP NEXT
- After the first day of action, the women were in fifth place with 15 points, while the men were tied for sixth with four points.
- The second day of the UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships takes place March 2 at 11 AM (10 Central).
