Reyes wins at #6, but #27 women's tennis falls at #11 MIT, 6-1

Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a tune-up for next week's February Break trip to California, the Brandeis University women's tennis team opened its 2025 dual-match season on the road at MIT. The #11 Engineers upended the #27 Judges, 6-1.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 0-1, Ranked #27 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With Division III starting play with a single point for doubles this season, MIT opened with a sweep to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Judges' closest doubles match came at #1, where junior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y./ International Virtual Learning Academy) and sophomore Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines/Laurel Springs School) fell, 7-5, after their MIT opponents came from 5-2 down.
  • In singles action, MIT won the first five matches to clinch the victory. Suarez went three sets at #1 but fell in a tight third-set super tie-breaker, 6-3, 2-6, 7-10.
  • Reyes battled at #6 to earn the team's lone win, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10. In the third-set super tiebreaker, Suarez took a 4-1 lead, fell behind, 6-4, then fought off two match points at 7-9. She was unable to convert her first match point, but rallied to win on the second at 12-10.

  • The Judges kick off their three-match western trip on Monday, Feb. 17, at Whittier College. The match starts at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific.
