PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Brandeis University track and field team had two top-three finishes today at the 2024 University Athletic Association outdoor championships held at Carnegie Mellon University. The women finished in sixth place with 47.5 points, while the men were seventh with 25 points.
ALL-ASSOCIATION PERFORMANCES
- The first All-UAA finish of the day and the meet came from sophomore Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) in the triple jump. Nugent's third attempt went for 11.47 meters (37-7 ¾) and launched her into second place, with only other opponent surpassing her in the final round. It was her first All-UAA performance in the event after scoring in her three previous conference meets.
- The 4x100-meter relay team tied a school record set two years ago with a time of 49.12 seconds to finish in third place. The squad consisted of senior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx HS of Science), senior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), Nugent and senior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y,/Eastchester). Huynh and Campbell were both on the previous record-holding team.
OTHER SCORERS
- Senior Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) just missed reaching the top three in the high jump, tying with four others in fourth place with a height of 1.51 meters (4-11 ½). Zarzycki also had a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.56
- First-year Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman) was also fourth in the javelin throw with a heave of 53.09 meters (174-2), about 1.2 meters out of All-UAA position.
- Sophomore TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) was unable to defend his title in the outdoor 800-meter run, finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:52.62. He improved four spots from his prelim performance, when he grabbed the eighth position in the finals.
- Campbell, who set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles yesterday, placed fifth in today's finals with a time of 15.27 seconds.
- Junior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) added four points with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter run, posting a time of 57.81 seconds. She was seeded sixth into the finals and lowered her prelim time by about six-tenths of a second.
- Senior Ori Slotky (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) came in sixth in the 400-meter hurdles for the men, running 57.65 seconds in the finals. He improved his time by nearly a second and a half over his prelim time.
- The women narrowly missed a second All-Association relay, taking fourth in the 4x400-meters with a time of 3:58.86 run by the foursome of Bohbot-Dridi, Korn, Nugent and Zarzycki.
- The men's 4x400-meters claimed sixth place with a time of 3:24.89, with a team made up of senior Samuel Kim (La Jolla, Calif./Phillips Exeter (N.H.), sophomore Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), Slotky and junior Dean Carey (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant).
