MEDFORD, MA – The Judges headed back to Tufts this weekend to shake off the rust at the outdoor season opener, the Snowflake Classic. The women won three events and placed 3rd overall with 70 points, just 2 points behind Connecticut College. The men's team placed 9th overall with 20 points.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Brandeis women won the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.11 seconds. The team consisted of senior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y. Bronx/H.S. of Science), senior
Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), sophomore
Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy), and senior
Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester).
The women also won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:07, made up of junior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos),
Liz Korn,
Shaniece Nugent, and senior
Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass./Belmont).
Olivia Zarzycki won the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:06.93. In second was first-year
Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield North), also earning a 400 PR with her time of 1:08.07.
Hannah Bohbot-Dridi came in 5th with a time of 1:09.19.
In the 5k, junior Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) dropped a whopping 25-second PR of 18:42 for 8th place, only 2 seconds off the DIII New England qualifying time. Junior
Zada Forde (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional) tied her indoor season PR with 19:19 for 12th, and sophomore
Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo Atherton) ran a season PR of 19:23 for 13th place.
Junior Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J. / Jefferson Township) braved the 10k alone, running a 90-second PR of 39:13 for 3rd place, and qualifying her for DIII New Englands.
In the 1500, first-year Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor)(16th) earned another PR of 5:08, and senior Lizzy Reynolds (Winchester, Mass./ Winchester) (15th) earned a PR of 5:07. Sophomore
Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) (14th) was 2 seconds off her PR, running 5:05.
In the 100 meter dash, senior Smiley Huynh ran .01 seconds off her PR, with 13.04 seconds for 15th place, First-year
Francesca Samuel (Natick, Mass. / Natick) (14.72 seconds, 39th), sophomore
Diane Meyer (Plymouth, Minn. Wayzata) (16.00 seconds, 45th), and sophomore
Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan / Phillips Exeter Academy) (14.51 seconds, 37th) ran their first outdoor 100s.
Junior Ianna Gilbert (Queens, N.Y. / Young Women's Leadership School of Queens) hit a shot put PR of 8.20 meters for 24th place.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
In javelin, first-year Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./ Isidore Newman) threw a PR of 53.01 meters for 5th place, putting him at #1 in the UAA. Sophomore
TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) threw a PR of 38.33 meters for 18th place.
Sophomore Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C./Woodside Priory School) ran a 100-meter time of 11.52 seconds for 11th, qualifying him for finals. Following in 14th was senior
Jordan Colon (Devens, Mass. / Bromfield School), with a PR of 11.43. In the finals finals, Yue ran a PR of 11.28, and Colon ran another PR of 11.32 for 9th and 12th, respectively.
The 1500 saw 4 PRs- junior Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) ran 4:09 for 9th,
Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass./ B.C. High) ran 4:11 for 10th, Sophomore
Dylan Zhao (Staten Island, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) ran 4:28 for 29th, and junior
Erik Lopez (Stamford, Conn. / Westhill) ran 4:53 for 30th.
In the 110-meter hurdles, TJ Showstead ran a PR of 16.59 seconds for 7th place and another PR of 16.48 for 6th place at finals.
First-year Ian Dyer (Warren, R.I. / Wheeler School) ran his first collegiate race and earned a 200 PR of 23.72 seconds for 20th.
In the 400, sophomore Adam Rieden (Littleton, Mass. / Littleton) ran a PR of 52.70 seconds for 10th and
Sam Rosen (Dallas, Texas/Lakehill Preparatory School) ran a 400 PR of 54.99 for 22nd.
Junior Cam Peirce (Kittery, Maine / Portsmouth Christian Academy) threw a shot put PR of 13.28 meters for 6th place and a discus PR of 34.69 meters for 11th place.
The Judges will be back next at Amherst College for the Amherst Spring Fling on April 6th.
