MEDFORD, MASS - The Judges made waves today at Tufts Cupid Challenge meet, with many standout performances and PRs. Across men's and women's teams, the Judges saw 9 PRs in the 3K, and sophomore Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) won triple jump.
Senior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) ran 9.43 seconds in 6th place in the 60m hurdles to qualify for the finals, where she ran 9.41 and placed 6th again.
Senior Lin Lin Hutchinson (Portland, Ore. / Ida B. Wells) earned a .06 second PR in the 60 with his time of 8.08 seconds.
In her second race of the season, junior Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover) ran 5:22 mile for 7th place, earning herself a 9-second indoor PR. Senior Adah Anderson (Cumberland, R.I. / Cumberland) ran a season-best of 6:01 in the mile, and sophomore Rob King (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) ran a 4:43 mile in his first-ever collegiate track race.
Junior Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J. / Jefferson Township) ran 19:00 in her first collegiate indoor 5k, giving her over a minute PR from her outdoor time, while junior Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) ran a 16:30 5k, giving him a 1 second PR from last year's Cupid Invite PR.
Sophomore Adam Rieden (Littleton, Mass. / Littleton) ran 1:25 in the 600 for 9th place, giving him the 46th fastest time in DIII this season. Sophomore TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) ran 1:54 for 2nd place in the 800, and senior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) ran a .6 second PR in her indoor 800 with 2:31.18.
Junior Spencer Lee (Great Neck, N.Y./William A. Shine Great Neck South) ran a PR in the 1k, 2:38 putting him at #55 in DIII this season, and sophomore Dylan Zhao (Staten Island, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) also ran a PR of 2:42 at #94. Kirsten Man ran 28.89 for her first collegiate 200, and sophomore Ifigenia Oxyzolou (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) PRed with 29.78 seconds.
In the long jump, junior Kirsten Man (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) jumped a PR of 4.86 meters, Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Ardsley) a PR of 4.66 meters, and Oxyzolou a PR of 4.32 meters. Sophomore Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C./Woodside Priory School) also earned a Long jump PR of 5.96 meters. Lastly, sophomore Shaniece Nugent earned a triple jump PR of 11.31 meters and won the event, ranking her 31st overall in Division III..
The 3k saw some major breakthroughs for both men's and women's. Breaking 9 minutes for the first time were first-year Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass. / BC High) ( 8:53, 14th place), Willem Goff (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional) (8:54, 16th), and Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Vocational Tech) (8:59, 19). Additionally, first-year Gabe Levin (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) earned a PR with a time of 10:03.
For the women, First-year Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine / Bangor) had a 10-second PR from last week, with a time of 10:46. Zada Forde (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional) PRed with a time of 10:48, Sophomore Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) with a 32 second PR at 11:00, First-year Shayna Zavell (Highland Park, Ill, / Highland Park) with a 22 second PR at 11:29, and Calli Morvay (Littleton, Mass. / Littleton) with a 1 second PR of 11:29 as well.
Sophomore TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) was the star of the show with his Heptathlon PR score of 3993 points. He earned PRs in the 60 meter (7.62 seconds), Long Jump (5.79 meters), Shot Put (11.16 meters), and the 100 (2:56).Showstead finished in sixth place
The Judges will be back next weekend at a pair of meets at BU and MIT.
