Rieden earns second All-UAA honor as men finish seventh at indoor championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) earned All-University Athletic Association honors for the second year in a row today, finishing third in the 800-meter run as the Judges finished in seventh place in the team standings.

RIEDEN'S ALL-UAA PERFORMANCE
  • Rieden, who finished second in the 800 a year ago, came into today's final as the second seed.
  • Running his typically tactical race, Rieden ran a pair of 29-second laps before kicking it into gear with about 150 meters to go. He ran 28.87 seconds on the third 200 to move from eighth into seventh place, then saved his best lap for last.
  • Rieden passed three other runners down the stretch, running the fastest final quarter to finish third with a time of 1:54.84. He was about half a second out of second place and two-tenths ahead of fourth.
  • Rieden became the men's first repeat All-UAA selection since 2019.
  • Rieden will still need to shave two seconds or more off his season-best time to return to the NCAA Division III Championships. He finished sixth nationally in 2025.
OTHER SCORING PERFORMANCES
  • First-year JJ Fleming (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) added two points in an individual race with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash. He posted a time of 23.14 seconds in the finals, running to his seed.
  • In the final event of the meet, the Judges added three more points to their total with a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team consisted of sophomore Eli Wawersik (Westborough, Mass./ Westborough), junior Sam Rosen (Dallas, Texas / Lakehill Preparatory School), senior Adam Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), and sophomore Steve Gonzalez (Parkville, Md. / Calvert Hall College HS) and posted a time of 3:28.27, a quarter of a second behind Case Western Reserve.
  • The Judges' 19 points put them six behind sixth-place NYU.
UP NEXT
  • The Judge will try to make one last attempt to qualify for nationals next weekend at the Tufts National Qualifier meet.
