WALTHAM, Mass. – Three members of the Brandeis University track and field teams landed in the top 40 of the NCAA Division III rankings after their showings at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University and the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
In the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) improved her season-best time to 55.91 seconds, becoming the first woman to break 56 seconds in school history in the process at BU. Leroy finished in 17
th place overall at the meet, second in her heat to a runner from Yale, and third among Division III runners, just 0.01 seconds behind a runner from Williams and 0.05 behind one from Drew. Leroy is now ranked 11
th nationally in the event.
In her first meet competing in the triple jump this season, sophomore
Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline Academy) launched into 15
th place in the national standings with a distance of 11.51 meters (37-9 ¼). Sealy was sixth overall at BU and topped Division III competitors. Sealy's top jump came on her fourth attempt of the day.
On the men's side, competing at Tufts, sophomore
Eli Wawersik (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) set a career-best in the heptathlon with a mark of 4475 points. His mark was converted 4499 because of the track size, ranking 39
th in Division III this season. Wawersik placed fourth out of 13 competitors at Tufts behind two competitors from the host school and one from Roger Williams. Wawersik had three personal-bests during the meet, finishing second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2.49.33; fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.35 seconds and ninth in the shot put with a heave of 10.40 meters (34-1 ½). Wawersik also placed fourth among the 13 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles (8.99 seconds) and fifth in the long jump (6.26 meters, 20-6 ½).
The Judges will return to action next weekend at Wheaton College's Pre-Postseason meet.
