ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Brandeis University cross country teams finished in eighth place today at the 2024 University Athletic Association Championships hosted by the Judges at Highland Park in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The women finished with 241 points and were 54 points behind Rochester, while the men totaled 242 points, 50 behind Rochester.
The Judges' highest finish on the day came from the men's junior
TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) who covered the eight-kilometer course in 25:51.2 to finish 43rd. He broke 26 minutes for the first time and improved his placement by 25 spots over last year. Graduate student
Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Vocational Tech) was the men's second finisher with a 52
nd-place finish in 25:59.2, also breaking 26 minutes for the first time in his collegiate career. Nguyen improved by 11 spots from his 2023 standing.
Senior
Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) finished 66
th place with a time of 26:37.3, while classmate
Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y./HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) was 71
st in 26:54.3. First-year
Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) rounded out the Judges' top five with a time of 27:38.9, good for 74
th place.
On the women's side, senior
Zada Forde (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and junior
Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) were the team's top two finishers, placing 49
th and 50
th overall. Forde finished down five spots from her 2023 finish with a time of 23:21.7, about nine seconds of p.r. for six kilometers. Warkentine ran 23:23.5 and improved by 11 spots from her previous run at UAAs.
Sophomore
Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) ran her best-ever 6K to finish in 59
th place with a time of 23:52.4, breaking 24 minutes for the first time. She was one spot better than her 2023 performance at the conference championships. Senior
Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) was fourth for the Judges with a 62
nd-place finish in 24:00.8, while junior
Katriona Briggs (Menlo, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) was fifth on the squad with a time of 24:40.5, placing 67
th overall.
The Chicago women and NYU men were the team champions. Senior Matthew Coyle of Carnegie Mellon won the men's title in 24:21.0, a new UAA record, while Emory senior Brigid Hanley won the women's race in 21:07.6, the second-fastest in conference history.
The Judges return to action with the NCAA East Regional Championships in two weeks in New Hampshire.
