Dia places 49th to pace men's x-country to 11th at regionals

CONTOOCOOK, NH – The Judges traveled up to New Hampshire today for the Division III East Region Championships at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds hosted by Suffolk. The women placed 9th out of 30 teams with 296 points, 72 points behind Wellesley and just ahead of Gordon. It was a one-spot improvement over 2023 for the Judges.  The men placed 11th out of 33 teams 381 points, behind Plymouth State and ahead of Maine- Farmington, dropping one spot from 2023.
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior captain Zada Forde (Amherst, Mass / Amherst) finished in 23:25.49, earning her 41st place, the same finish as she produced in 2023.
• Next up came junior Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga), in 55th place, running 23:51.51, a 20-second improvement from her time last year. She improved by 25 spots from her previous career-best at regionals.
• Sophomore Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine / Bangor) followed in 63rd place, finishing in 24:05.19, up nine spots.
• Closing out the top five were junior Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo Atherton) and senior captain Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South), running 24:31.33 and 24:32.48 for 71st and 72nd places respectively. Briggs was up nine spots at regionals from a year ago.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior captain Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) finished first for Brandeis in 49th place, running 26:16.79, 20 seconds and 13 places better than his performance at Regionals last year.
• Senior Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) placed 71st, running 27:07.62. He improved 11 places from 2023, when he was the team's fourth finisher. 
• Following right behind was junior TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport), running 27:13.32 for 75th place. Carleo had been the team's top runner in 2023. 
• Grad student Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Vocational Tech) earned 91st with his time of 27:26.77. 
• First-year Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn / Old Saybrook) finished off the top pack with his time of 27:33.3, earning an 8k PR and 95th place.
 
NEXT UP – Regionals closed off the Judges' XC season, but they will pick back up for indoor Track and Field at Reggie Poyau Invitational on January 13th.
