BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Brandeis University cross country teams had a rare Friday race today, as the Judges competed at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania today. The Brandeis women came in 15
th out of 45 teams in a field filled with USTFCCCA contenders. Brandeis was fourth among UAA teams at the meet and sixth among teams from New England. The men were 42
nd out of 45 squads.
On the women's side, graduate student
Shae Regan (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) led the way for the Brandeis women, finishing the six-kilometer race in 29
th place with a time of 21:56.2. In 55
th place after one mile, Regan improved steadily as the race went on, climbing into 41
st place at two-mile mark and then moving up another 12 places before the finish. Graduate student
Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover) ran her first race of the season, finishing in 76
th place. She ran with Regan for the first mile, sitting in 53
rd place and staying steady there after the first mile. She dropped back 23 places at the final turning in a time of 22:33.0.
Junior
Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) ran a consistent race, finishing 115
th after one mile and improving 111
th at the second split, where she remained until the finish, posting a time of 22:52.1. First-year
Mikaela Beeler (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) finished right behind Harrow in 112
th place with a time of 22:52.6. Beeler was 95
th after Mile 1 and improved to 75
th after Mile 2, then fell back on her final split.
Senior
Ella Warkentine (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) rounded out the top 5, coming in 130
th with a time of 23:00.8. Classmate
Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) was 151
st in 23:11.3 and first-year
Melissa Keenan (E. Brunswick, N.J./E. Brunswick) was 266
th in 24:18.0 to finish up the top 7.
On the men's side, junior
Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass. / BC High) ran an excellent race. He covered the eight-kilometer course in 26:31.5, improving at every milestone. He was in 268
th after one mile, but moved up at each additional split, improving by 31 spots at the 5K mark, another 17 spots at 6.3K and another 23 before the finish to come in among the top 200. First-year
Ben Weiner (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) got off to a great start, standing in 155
th after one mile, but fell back over each of the next milestones, finishing in 212
th place with a time of 26:36.9.
Sophomore
Ben Katsev (N. Andover, Mass. / N. Andover) took 263
rd place with a time of 27:01.0, moving up during each split, including a 42-place improvement from one mile to the 5K, and then up 10 and 6 at each of the next three mileposts. Classmate
Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) was fourth for the team in 336
th place in 27:48.7, while senior
Dylan Zhao (Staten Island, N.Y. / Brooklyn Tech) closed out the top five scorers in 27:54.4, placing 351

Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) made his season debut and placed 39-h with a time of 29:00.2.
Brandeis returns to action back in New England on Saturday, October 18
th, at the Connecticut College Invitational.
