Women's tennis pushes #19 WashU before falling in UAA fifth-place match, 5-3

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team tied with 19th-ranked Washington University through six matches, but the Bears prevailed, 5-3, in the fifth-place match of the 2022 University Athletic Association tournament today at Sanlando Park. The Judges finish in sixth place with a 5-13 record, while the Bears improve to 16-8.

WashU opened with a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning 8-1 at #3 and 8-4 at #2. The Judges got on the board at #1 as first-years Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) and Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) outlasted WashU's Karen Gao and Ainsley Heidbreder in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-5).

In singles action, Parwani completed a sweep of Gao with a 6-3, 6-0, win at #1. WashU went ahead with a win at #4, but Loui answered with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Sophia Huynh to tie things up at 3-all. The Bears finished with wins at #2 and #6 to complete the win. First-year Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) was tied at #5, 6-2, 4-6, 1-1, when the match ended.

Brandeis will close out its 2022 season on Saturday, May 1, when they take on Endicott College for Senior Day.
