Women's tennis drops UAA tourney opener to #4 Emory, 5-0

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team suffered a 5-0 defeat in the quarterfinals of the 2022 University Athletic Association tournament at the hands of Emory University. The Judges, seeded seventh in the tournament, fall to 4-12 on the season and will meet NYU in the consolation semifinals tomorrow. The Eagles, seeded second and ranked #4 in Division III, improve to 7-8.

The Judges fell behind early in doubles action, dropping the matches 8-0, 8-3, and 8-3. In singles, Emory closed things out with wins at #6, where Arya Dudipala defeated Brandeis sophomore Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International), and at #3, where Christina Watson defeated Judge rookie Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), 6-2, 6-0.

Brandeis had the lead in two matches when the overall match was clinched. At #1, Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) led Emory's Emma Cartledge, 6-1, 1-0. At #5, first-year Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece/Anatolia College) owned a 6-0, 4-3, lead on Sam Falcon.

The Judges will meet sixth-seeded NYU in the consolation semifinals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. The Judges dropped a 5-4 decision to the Violets earlier this season.
