Women's soccer roars past Johnson and Wales, 7-0

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team notched their first road win of the 2019 season Saturday afternoon in convincing fashion, 7-0, over the home Johnson & Wales Wildcats. The win puts Brandeis at 2-1 on the season, while JWU moves to 0-4.

Brandeis started the scoring barrage early as sophomore Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass./Tyngsborough) scored the first two of her five points tonight on a goal assisted by Sophomore Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional), who had five points of her own, in the 5th minute. The offense kept on rolling as Carreiro netted a goal of her own just 20 minutes later. Continuing her impressive night, Carreiro scored again in the 33rd minute off a Katie Romanovich (Cranford, N.J./AAHS) assist, the first of her collegiate career, pushing the lead to 3-0. It marked the second-straight two-goal game for Carreiro.

Just before the half, sophomore Lauren Mastandrea (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) netted a goal assisted by first-year Jessica Herman (Plantation, Fla./NSU University School), the second-straight game with an assist for Herman. Senior Emma Spector (Needham, Mass./Needham) put a solo effort beyond the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute for her first goal of the season and an insurmountable 5-0 lead. After a comparatively lengthy scoring drought, Hunt would put another past the keeper in the 83rd minute. Completing the scoring onslaught was junior Willa Molho (New York, N.Y./Beacon School) who scored her first goal of the season off a Makenna Hunt assist in the 86th minute.

Not to be outdone, the Brandeis defense was terrific, especially sophomore and senior goalkeepers Rebecca Gold (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) and Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn./Tolland), respectively. The two netminders combined to face five shots on goal, saving all of them en route to the shutout win. Richardson had three in the start to earn the win, Gold had two in the second half.

Next up the Judges are on the road to take on the 3-0 Clark Cougars on September 10th before returning to Gordon Field for contests against the Babson Beavers (September 14th) and Tufts Jumbos (September 17th).
