Logan saves six, but women fall to #10 Chicago, 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – A goal early in the second half was all the scoring today as the visiting #10 University of Chicago women's soccer team edged host Brandeis University in University Athletic Association action on Gordon Field.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 8-6-2,1-4-1 UAA.
  • Chicago: 13-1-1, 5-0-1 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chicago owned much of the possession in the first half and outshot Brandeis, 7-2, but the Judges were kept in the game thanks to terrific goalkeeping by senior Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside).
  • Logan's best effort came in the 30th minute after a Chicago corner kick, when she punched one ball off the crossbar and recovered to save the ensuing rebound.
  • The Maroons finally converted a goal in the 58th minute, when a corner from Annabel Edwards went through the box to Kamiryn Braxton Grimes, who sent it back across for Kaitlyn Gomez to knock past Logan.
  • Logan also made a nice diving save on Chicago's Kate Bruntlett in the 69th minute.
  • Brandeis had a couple of decent looks at the goal, with sophomore Moira Koleno (Chicago, Ill. / Whitney M. Young Magnet) getting blocked in the 67th minute and senior Zareena Mann (San Ramon, Calif./California) whistling a shot just outside the near left post in the 78th minute.
  • Logan finished with six saves on the day, bringing her UAA-leading total to 90 on the season, the most by a Brandeis player since 2010.
  • Chicago's Amanda Kayari made two stops to keep the clean sheet.
  • UC outshot Brandeis, 15-5, for the game and had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • With the win, Chicago can clinch the 2026 UAA title with a Washington University loss or tie at NYU this afternoon. If the Bears win, the two teams will meet next weekend in Chicago.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges will close out the regular season next Saturday afternoon against NYU at home at 2:30 p.m.
