Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – Visiting UMass-Boston got 13 hits from nine different players today as the eighth-ranked Beacons defeated the Brandeis University baseball team, 11-4, on Stein Diamond today. The Judges fall to 2-14 on the season, while the Beacons improve to 18-5.

UMass-Boston took a 5-0 lead after two innings on just two hits. Senior 1B Chris Fowler (2-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, HR) delivered a grand slam in the top of the first after the Judges had walked the bases loaded, and junior CF Wanderson Pinales (1-2, HR, BB) hit a solo shot in the second.

The Judges scored single runs in four different innings, but were unable to string together any big hits. Three of the four runs came home on sacrifice flies, including two by rookie catcher Luke Hall (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown). Reserve DH Nick Yanco (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett) added a third SF, while rookie 1B Isaac Fossas (Dudley, Mass./Milton Academy) went 3-3 with the team's lone RBI hit in the fifth inning. Fossas had half of the team's hits on the day.

On the hill, Brandeis sent a parade of pitchers, with 10 different Judges pitching in the game, eight for a single full inning. Sophomore Jackson Carman (Naples, Fla./Naples) was saddled with the loss after giving up Fowler's grand slam in the first. Sophomore Kyle Slevira (Manchester, N.H./Hopkinton) was the squad's most effective hurler, striking out two of the three Beacon hitters he faced.

UMB sophomore Joey Rogers improved to 3-1 on the season with five innings of five-hit ball. He gave up three runs (two earned) and struck out two and walked two. Three Beacon relievers combined to allow one hit and one run over the final four frames.

Brandeis heads to Atlanta this weekend for their first-ever trip to UAA rival Emory – the teams' played in Boston last year and in Florida prior to that. The series starts on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. UMass-Boston is at Roger Williams tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
