MILTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team got a combined four-hit shutout from three pitchers and a big day on the base-paths from junior
Connor Crowley (Guilford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) today as the Judges defeated Curry College, 8-0, on the road.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 21-15.
- Curry: 6-27.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three Brandeis pitchers were in command of the Colonels today, as they combined to allow just four hits, striking out 15 batters and walking three.
- The Judges allowed just two Curry baserunners to get past second base over the nine innings.
- Junior Andrew Tringe (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) got the day started on the hill and he extended his scoreless-inning streak to 12. Tringe threw five innings today, allowing two hits and one walk. He struck out a career-high 10 batters of the 18 Curry players he faced to improve to 4-5 on the season.
- Senior Cooper Gavin (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) came on in relief and threw the next three innings, fanning three and allowing two walks and two hits.
- First-year Brady Ross (Rye, N.Y./Harrison) retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth, striking out two of the three hitters he faced.
- Offensively, the Judges got all the runs they would need in the third inning when first-year catcher Quinn Lanagan (Raynham, Mass./Xaverian) singled to lead off the frame, stole second and advanced to third and home with long fly balls. Sophomore RF Bobby Quill (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) picked up the RBI with a sacrifice fly.
- The Judges added another sac fly in the fourth, from junior Henry Aronwald (Rye Brook, N.Y./Trinity Pawling), followed up by an RBI single from Crowley.
- Brandeis would add five runs over the last three innings to pull away from the Colonels.
- Overall, Crowley paced the Judge offense by going 3-5 with two RBI, a run scored and four RBI, the most by a Brandeis player since at least 2004.
- Sophomore Danny Tambascia (Newton, Mass./Newton North) and first-year Noah Koong (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) each had two hits and a double. Sophomore Keith Lee (Milford, Mass./Milford) also had a two-bagger.
- Aronwald joined Crowley with two RBI, while junior Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) scored twice.
UP NEXT
- The Judges are scheduled to meet MIT in their season finale tomorrow at 7 p.m. on Stein Diamond. A win in that game would allow the Judges to finish with their best winning percentage in a season since 2006.
