#28 women's tennis suffers first loss of season to #5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The 28th-ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday afternoon at the hands of No. 5-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by a 9-0 score. The Judges fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Athenas improved to 3-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The closest doubles match was contested at No. 1, where rookie Sabrina Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, Wash./Laurel Springs School) and sophomore Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) dropped an 8-5 decision to CMS's nationally-ranked tandem of Nicole Tan and Katie Kuosman.
  • Sophomores Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs) and Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) fell, 8-4, at No. 2 to Lindsay Brown and Catherine Allen.
  • CMS won five of the six singles matches without dropping more than three games. The most hotly-contested action came at No. 3 singles, where sophomore Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) took Allen, who was ranked 14th in Division III in the fall, to a third set super-tiebreaker before falling, 3-6, 6-2, 10-2.
