Baseball sees four-game win streak snapped, 6-3, at Johnson and Wales

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Brandeis baseball team saw its four-game winning streak come to a halt on Tuesday afternoon, as the Judges dropped a 6-3 decision at Johnson and Wales. Brandeis falls to 11-15, JWU improves to 12-10.

Brandeis scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Junior catcher Connor Doyle (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) reached on a fielder's choice, moved to third on a Brian Allen (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic School) double and scored on an infield error to give the Judges the lead. In the third, rookie DH Ryan Pocock (Westford, Mass./Westford) - also the starting pitcher - singled and moved to second when junior Greg Heineman (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) reached on an error. A wild pitch put them in scoring position and senior Tom McCarthy (Yonkers, N.Y./Fieldston School) plated the second run with a grounder to second.

JWU got to Pockock for a run in the bottom of the third, then scored three times in the fourth against relievers Liam Coughlin (Townsend, Mass./Lowell Catholic) and Bradley Bousquet (Athol, Mass./Athol). The Wildcats loaded the bases on a single and two walks by Coughlin. Bousquet entered with the bases loaded. He got the first out on a sac fly that tied the game, then a single and an error allowed the next two runs to score.

The Judges were unable to convert a leadoff double by Pocock in the fifth, and JWU score two more in the bottom of the frame. They took advantage of four hits and an error on Bousquet.  Brandeis got one run back in the sixth on an RBI single by junior Ryan Healy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon), but the Judges managed just one base runner in their final three at-bats.

Rookie SS Nick Falkson (Dedham, Mass./Thayer Acad.), Healy and Pocock all had two hits for the Judges. For Healy, who went 2-5, he has seven hits in his last 11 at-bats. Coughlin suffered the loss on the hill, falling to 0-4 on the season.

Brandeis returns to action on Thursday, when they head back to Rhode Island to face Roger Williams.
