#24 women's tennis swept at #6 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Brandeis women, ranked No. 24 in the latest ITA Division III national poll, faced the sixth-ranked Middlebury on Saturday evening and fell, 9-0. The closest singles matches came at No. 1 and No. 5. In the top spot, junior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) lost to Ria Gerger, 7-5, 6-3. At fifth singles, sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) suffered a 6-4, 7-5 defeat at the hands of Sadie Shackleford. Cooke and senior Simone Vandroff (Moss Beach, Calif./Half Moon Bay) played Gerger and Jennifer Sundstrom tight before losing, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.

The Judges are now 1-5, with all five losses coming to nationally-ranked or Division I teams. The women are scheduled to host Wellesley College Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
