BRUNSWICK, Maine – The #22-ranked Brandeis University women's tennis team went on the road for an evening match against #10-ranked Bowdoin College tonight, with the Polar Bears prevailing on home courts, 6-1.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 7-4, ranked #22 in Division III by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges nearly got on the board first, but Bowdoin managed a late break of serve to secure the doubles point.
  • After the hosts won a 6-1 match at #2, Brandeis's #1 tandem of senior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) and junior Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines / Laurel Springs School) earned a 6-4 win to even things up.
  • At #3, Brandeis junior Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India/Aavishkar School) and first-year Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India / Cosmos Castle International School) were tied with their foes at 5-all, but Bowdoin's break in the 11th game was enough to give them a 7-5 win and the doubles point.
  • Bowdoin won straight-set matches at spots two through four to clinch the victory.
  • The final three matches all took tiebreakers to be decided, with Suarez falling 5-7, 7-3, 2-10, in a third-set super tiebreaker at #2, while senior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Division) earned the Judges' lone point at #5, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.
