WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team, ranked #23 in Division III, rolled past visiting Nichols College today, as the Judges defeated the Bison, 7-0, in the Gosman Athletic Center.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 7-3, ranked #23 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- Nichols, 15-3, unranked.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges had a leg up on the visitors from the start, as the Bison had just five players available.
- Brandeis swept the doubles point. After winning at #3 by walkover, junior Chahana Budhbhatti (Ahmedabad, India / Aavishkar School) and first-year Avani Chitale (Ahmedabad, India / Cosmos Castle International School) swept at #2, 6-0.
- Senior Rebecca Suarez (New York, N.Y. / International Virtual Learning Academy) and junior Mandy Reyes (Manila, Philippines / Laurel Springs School) completed the doubles sweep, 6-3, at #1.
- After earning a second point by walkover at #6, the Judges got another fast point at #1, when Nichols' top player retired after three games.
- First-year Galia Harmelin (Seattle, Wash. / University Prep) provided the clinching win at #5, 6-0 6-4, for her first collegiate clincher.
- Classmate Milana Sofizade (Sarasota, Fla. / IMG Academy) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at #4, and sophomore Charly Saltz (Los Angeles, Calif. / Learning Post Academy) blitzed her opponent at #3, 6-0, 6-0.
- Senior Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Division) won the most competitive match of the day at #2, outlasting her opponent, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
