#24 Women's tennis tops UAA rival NYU, 8-1

BRONX, N.Y. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team saw their first taste of University Athletic Association play today, taking on rivals NYU at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx. The 24th-ranked Judges rolled over the Violets, 8-1.

The Brandeis women (3-5) won for the second time in less than 24 hours with their 8-1 victory over the Violets. In first and third doubles, the Brandeis teams lost just one game, while second doubles took an 8-3 decision.

In singles play, the Judges won five of six matches despite junior Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) resting after her doubles match. Senior Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) stepped into the No. 1 singles spot at took the longest match of the day over NYU's Alison Want, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. The rest of the singles action went in straight sets. Sophomore Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) had the easiest time, losing just one game to Alex Ziarko at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1. Classmate Hannah Marion (Hillsborough, N.C./Cedar Ridge), in her first match of the season in the top 6, made quick work of Natassja Westover at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 24 Judges improve to 3-5 with the win, while NYU falls to 0-2. Brandeis faces cross-town rival Bentley on Friday at 3 p.m. in their next match.
