LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Brandeis women's tennis team got off to a nice start to their spring campaign today with a 6-3 win over Cal Lutheran University in California. The 30th-ranked Judges improved to 2-0 on the season thanks to the top of their singles lineup, as the first through third spots dropped just four games between them.
Rookie Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and sophomore Allyson Bernstein (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) each won 6-1, 6-0, at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, while junior Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) was a 6-1, 6-1, winner at No. 2 in her return from a fall semester abroad. Sophomore Alexa Katz (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends) took a 6-2, 6-4, decision at No. 6. Brandeis also cruised in the top two doubles matches against the Regals, as Broderick and Cooke won, 8-2, at No. 1, and Katz and senior Nina Levine (Westport, Conn./Staples) were 8-1 victors at No. 2.
After a day off on Tuesday, the women return to action on Wednesday at Occidental College.
