LOS ANGELES, Calif. --The 28th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team rallied from its first loss of the season to defeat Occidental College handily, 9-0, in the third of a five-match February break trip to California. The Judges improve to 4-1, while the Tigers fall to 0-3.
In six of the nine matches, the Judges only gave up two games or fewer in the entire match. Sophomore Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) led the charge in singles action by not dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2, while senior Mackenzie Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and junior Nina Levine (Wesport, Conn./Staples) took an 8-0 decision at No. 2 doubles.
The longest match of the day was won by senior Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero) at No. 1 singles. Rosman dropped the first set in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (6-8), but rallied to sweep the second, 6-0, and take the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-6. Rookie Marissa Lazar (Hewlitt, N.Y./Lynbrook) won her first collegiate match at No. 6 singles, also rallying from a set down to win, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.
