WALTHAM, Mass. -- In the final regular season match of her
career, Brandeis women's tennis senior Ariana
Sanai (Hopewell Junction, N.J./John Jay) earned a pair of
victories, including the decisive point, as the Judges defeated
Trinity (Conn.) College, 7-2, on the Rieger Tennis Courts. The
Judges close the regular season at .500 with a 10-10 record, while
the Bantams fall to 6-4.
Brandeis took an early lead with two out of three doubles wins.
Rookie Faith Broderick (Washingtonville,
N.Y./Washingtonville) and junior Rachel Rosman
(Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero) were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles,
while Sanai and sophomore Nina Levine (Westport,
Conn./Staples) blanked their foes at No. 3, 8-0.
In singles action, Brandeis won five of six matches, including
three three-setters. Rosman and classmate Mackenzie
Gallegos (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) both bounced
back from a set down. Rosman's 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1 was
the 50th of her singles career, while Gallegos finished strong,
turning in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 performance at No. 4. Sanai ended up
with the clinching point her swan song, earning a 7-5, 6-4
victory at No. 3. Broderick also won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at
No. 2, while Levine bounced back from a second-set loss to earn a
win at No. 5, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.
