WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Brandeis women's tennis team, ranked
28th in the nation in the latest ITA Division III poll, improved to
6-5 on the season today with an 8-1 victory over local rival Babson
College. The Judges took all six singles matches and two of the
three doubles matches to earn the win.
Coach Ben Lamanna's squad won the first two doubles matches to
end, as senior Ariana Sanai (Hopewell Junction,
N.Y./John Jay) and sophomore Nina Levine
(Westport, Conn./Staples) took an 8-1 win at No. 3, followed by an
8-2 win at No. 2 by junior Mackenzie Gallegos
(Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and sophomore Sarah
Richman (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley). The Beavers earned
their only point of the match at No. 1 doubles, where senior
captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone
(Dover, Mass.) edged the Judges' top duo of rookie
Faith Broderick (Washingtonville,
N.Y./Washingtonville) and junior Rachel Rosman
(Bonita Springs, Fla./Estero), 9-7.
The Judges' top two players bounced back, however, to help
Brandeis sweep singles action. Broderick took a 6-3, 6-0, decision
at No. 1 and Rosman earned a 6-1, 6-1, triumph at No. 2. Sanai was
a 6-2, 6-3, victory at No. 3, while Gallegos edged her for at No. 4
with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
The Judges return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they take on
Wellesley College.
