WALTHAM, Mass. -- In the second game of a University Athletic
Association doubleheader tonight, the Brandeis University women's
soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to ninth-ranked Washington
University on Gordon Field.
Brandeis (7-6-3, 1-3-1 UAA) outshot their opponents, 15-13, but
Washington's (12-2-1, 4-0-1 UAA) 7-5 edge in shots on net included
the game's only two goals, with a pair of local products
contributing. The Bears opened the scoring in the 34th
minute. Senior midfielder Elyse Hanley (Westborough,
Mass./Westborough) switched fields to sophomore back Natalie
Callaghan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier). Callaghan sent a ball on net
from about 40 yards out the found the gap between Brandeis senior
goalkeeper Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton,
Fla./Spanish River) and the crossbar for her second goal of the
season.

second half. A terrific cross from sophomore midfielder
Mimi Theodore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) spun just
past the foot of junior forward Sofia Vallone
(Westport, Conn./Staples), who was waiting in front of wide open
net. Washington added an insurance goal in the 72nd
minute. Bear junior midfielder Julie Tembunkiart (Bethesda,
Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) ran down a ball on the end line. She was
able to cross it to classmate Becca Heymann (Winchester,
Mass./BB&N), who slipped it under a diving Rosenzweig for her
fifth of the campaign.
Rookie Clara Jacques (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) made
four saves for the Bears, with junior Katy Southworth (St. Louis,
Mo./MICDS) making one stop in the final five minutes of play.
Rosenzweig suffered the loss despite five saves.

University of Chicago on Sunday, with the women at 11 a.m. and the
