AMHERST, Mass. – The Brandeis University outdoor track and field teams had 23 top-10 finishes, including a win in the women's pole vault by senior
Alisha Anderson (Boulder, Colo./Ralston Valley) as the Judges competed in the Amherst College Spring Fling on Saturday afternoon.
TOP PERFORMERS – WOMEN
- Anderson turned in a performance of 3.40 meters (11 feet, 1 ¾ inches) to win the pole vault. It was her season-best for this outdoor campaign. Anderson edged a Tufts competitor on number of attempts for first.
- In the high jump, junior Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Ardsley) placed third and first-year Ashley Korbul (Staten Island, N.Y. / New Dorp) placed third and fifth, respectively, with an identical height of 1.52 meters (4-11 ¾).
- Senior Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan / Phillips Exeter Academy) was seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.81 meters (147-0),
- In the 5,000-meter run, a pair of graduate students placed in the top 10. Shae Regan (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) was the runner up with a time of 17:35.74 seconds, while Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover) was sixth in her first 5K race of the year after missing the indoor season. Both times were personal-bests, with Regan's time ranking 33rd in Division III this season.
- The women's 4x100-meter relay team finished in third with a time of 48.31 seconds, ranked 33rd in Division III this season. The team was comprised of sophomore All-Americans Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) and Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School), classmate Jasmin Berganza (Providence, R.I./Classical) and first-year Izzy Ross (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton).
- Individually, Ross jumped 5.29 meters in the long jump, one centimeter shy of matching her personal best, to place fourth. She was two-tenths of a meter out of third place. She also had an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.45 seconds).
- Leroy added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (26.28 seconds).
- The women had two top-10 finishes in the 1,500-meter run, with first-year Mikaela Beeler (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) placing seventh in 4:46.70 and junior Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) placing ninth in 4:47.42.
- There was one more pair of top-10 finishes for the women in one track event, the 400-meter hurdles, where junior Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) was sixth in 1:06.21 and first-year Andrea Georgiou (Nicosia, Cyprus / Nicosia) was ninth in a p.r. of 1:09.41.
- Ross, Liapis, first-year Melissa Keenan (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) and Berganza were sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:17.78.
TOP PERFORMERS – MEN
- Junior Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass / Concord-Carlisle Regional) earned a silver medal in the discus throw with a distance of 45.97 meters (150-10). It was a personal best in the event, marking the first time he threw over 44 meters and just three centimeters short of 46.
- Laurin also placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 12.77 meters (41-10 ¾).
- Senior Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School) took seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.95 meters (42-6) on his third attempts. It was his first time competing in the event outdoors.
- In the pole vault, sophomore Alex Chan (Westborough, Mass / Westborough) was fifth at 4.00 meters (13-1 ½), while first-year Emmett Remis (Newton, Mass. / Newton South) was ninth at 3.85 meters (12-7 ½).
- First-year Nate Phillip (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) took 10th in the long jump with a distance of 6.40 meters (21-0), tying his p.r.
- On the track, sophomore Eli Wawersik (Westborough, Mass / Westborough) was 10th in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.56 seconds, while the 4x100-meter relay team of grad student Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford), Yue, and first-years Sandy Cloud (Farmington, Conn. / Kingswood Oxford) and Max Eigen (Southboro, Mass. / Algonquin Regional) were eighth in 43.60 seconds.
