WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field teams sent a host of competitors to the FIRE Invitational at Williams College in the hopes of improving their standing in the NCAA Division III Championships rankings. The Judges came away with a couple of event wins and several other outstanding performances.
EVENT WINNERS
- Sophomore Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./The Ursuline School) maintained her position in the NCAA rankings at #4 in the triple jump by winning the event at Williams.
- Sealy was just one centimeter off of her top performance of the season of 12.18 meters (39-11 ½) on her first attempt. She passed on her final five chances, as that was enough to take the win.
- The team's second win came in the 10,000-meter run, where they took the top two places. Graduate student Shae Regan (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) won the event in 35:47.72, and first-year Mikaela Beeler (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) placed second in 35:51.19.
- The two times are ranked 27th and 28th in Division III this season. Those times are just out of NCAA qualifying positions with a week to go.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS - WOMEN
- Sophomore Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.60 seconds. She still ranks 45th in Division III this season.
- Junior Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) moved into the top 50 in Division III the high jump, placing sixth with a height of 1.63 meters (5-4 ¼), a personal best. She ranks 46th nationally.
- Junior Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) was 10th in the 5000-meter run in 17:08.65, and senior Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan/Phillips Exeter Academy) was 10th in the hammer throw at 46.15 meters (151-5).
- The 4x100 relay team of Sealy, first-year Izzy Ross (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), Leroy and sophomore Jasmin Berganza (Providence, R.I./Classical) took second with a time of 47.81 seconds, while Ross, Leroy, Berganza and junior Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) were fifth in the 4x400 in 3:54.57.
TOP PERFORMERS – MEN
- Junior Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass./Newton North) was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:15.90. He was about 2.5 seconds off his season-best and is currently ranked 28th nationally in the event.
- Junior Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) finished ninth in the discus throw with a heave of 43.83 meters (143-9).
- Classmate Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman) took 11th in the javelin with a toss of 45.65 meters (149-9).
UP NEXT
- The Judges will compete in last-chance qualifying events this Thursday at MIT and at Augustana College in Illinois.
