Judges pick up two wins at FIRE Invitational at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field teams sent a host of competitors to the FIRE Invitational at Williams College in the hopes of improving their standing in the NCAA Division III Championships rankings. The Judges came away with a couple of event wins and several other outstanding performances.

EVENT WINNERS
  • Sophomore Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./The Ursuline School) maintained her position in the NCAA rankings at #4 in the triple jump by winning the event at Williams.
  • Sealy was just one centimeter off of her top performance of the season of 12.18 meters (39-11 ½) on her first attempt. She passed on her final five chances, as that was enough to take the win.
  • The team's second win came in the 10,000-meter run, where they took the top two places. Graduate student Shae Regan (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) won the event in 35:47.72, and first-year Mikaela Beeler (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) placed second in 35:51.19.
  • The two times are ranked 27th and 28th in Division III this season. Those times are just out of NCAA qualifying positions with a week to go.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS - WOMEN
  • Sophomore Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.60 seconds. She still ranks 45th in Division III this season.

  • Junior Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) was 10th in the 5000-meter run in 17:08.65, and senior Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan/Phillips Exeter Academy) was 10th in the hammer throw at 46.15 meters (151-5).
  • The 4x100 relay team of Sealy, first-year Izzy Ross (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), Leroy and sophomore Jasmin Berganza (Providence, R.I./Classical) took second with a time of 47.81 seconds, while Ross, Leroy, Berganza and junior Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) were fifth in the 4x400 in 3:54.57.
