CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University track and field teams had four All-University Athletic Association performances on Day 1 of the 2026 UAA Outdoor Championships, including one conference champion in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Brandeis women were in fifth place with 34.5 points, while the men were in sixth with 15 points at the meet, being held at Case Western Reserve.
LICKLIDER WINS CONFERENCE TITLE IN STEEPLECHASE
- The best performance of Day One of the meet came from junior Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass./Boston College H.S.), who won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
- Licklider posted a personal-best time of 9:13.37 to win the race by nearly seven seconds. After running in second place for the first lap, Licklider fell back to fourth for the next 1200 meters.
- He moved up over the next two laps, sitting in second headed into the final 400. On the bell lap, Licklider had a terrific kick, running a blistering 1:07.35 to pull away for the win.
- Licklider's time is currently ranked 17th in Division III this season, which would land him a spot at the NCAA Championships.
- Licklider gives the Judges an All-UAA steeplechaser for the second year in a row, but he is the team's first champion in the event since 1990, when Jamie Chisum '91 took the crown.
WOMEN EARN THREE ALL-UAA HONORS ON DAY ONE
- Sophomore Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School) earned All-Association honors for the fourth time in her career, and second in the long jump.
- Sealy posted a distance of 5.63 meters (18-5 ¾) on her fifth jump. She finished five inches behind the winner from Chicago, improving her standings in the NCAA rankings to #24.
- Senior Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan/Phillips Exeter Academy) was named All-UAA for the third time, second in the hammer throw, as she placed third for the second year in a row.
- Liu threw a personal-best 50.31 meters (165-00), surpassing 50 meters for the first time in her career. The distance was just eight inches out of second place and is ranked #38 in Division III this season.
- In the first event of the day, first-year Mikaela Beeler (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) earned All-Conference honors for the first time, placing third in the 10,000-meters. Beeler posted a time of 36:25.65, also ranked 38th in DIII this season. She is the Judges' first All-UAA performer in the 10K since Kate Warwick '12 in 2012.
OTHER SCORING PERFORMANCES - WOMEN
- In addition to Beeler, graduate student Shae Regan (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) earned points in the 10,000 meters, placing fifth with a time of 36:31.23.
- The Judges also had multiple scorers in the long jump, with first-year Izzy Ross (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) placing sixth with a leap of 5.29 meters (14-4 ¼), tying her season-best.
- Senior Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo. / Ralston Valley) was tied for sixth place in the pole vault, reaching 3.31 meters (10-10 ¼), clearing on her final attempt.
- Senior Ella Warkentine (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:01.70. Warkentine had never broken 11 minutes before the event before nearly breaking 10 today.
- The 4x800-meter relay team of graduate student Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover), sophomore Lily McNulty (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls), first-year Melissa Keenan (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) and Warkentine placed sixth with a time of 9:51.87.
OTHER SCORING PERFORMANCES – MEN
- Senior Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School) contributed a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.61 meters (21-8 ¼). Yue was just seven centimeters out of a top-four finish.
- In the 4x800-meter relay, the Judges ran sophomore James Waters (North Merrick, N.Y. / Wellington C. Mepham HS), senior Adam Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), graduate student Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) and senior Dylan Zhao (Staten Island, N.Y. / Brooklyn Tech), and they placed sixth with a time of 8:36.16.
