WALTHAM, Mass. -- Two members of the Brandeis University men's basketball team have earned All-University Athletic Association honors. Senior
Elias Rodl of
Berlin, Germany, was named a first-team All-UAA selection, while sophomore
Alex Zakheim of
Bergenfield, New Jersey, earned a spot on the All-UAA second team.
Rodl earns All-UAA honors for the second year in a row, having claimed second-team honors as a junior. Rodl turned in one of the great offensive seasons in Brandeis history, averaging 23.3 points per game. Rodl was second in the conference and 18th in Division III in scoring, while his 582 total points led the UAA and ranked 22nd nationally. In conference games, Rodl led the UAA by averaging 24.8 points per game and scoring 347, tying the league's single-season record. Rodl's 582 points are the third-highest single-season total in Brandeis history, while his 23.3 points per game average is 5th all-time.
Rodl also finished third in the UAA in rebounding average at 7.6 boards per game with a league-leading 189 caroms, placing fifth in rebounds per game (7.4) and total rebounds in league games (104). He also led the conference in 3-point percentage (43.2%) and 3-pointers (73), ranking 10th and 25th, respectively in NCAA Division III. Rodl finished third in free-throw percentage (84.0%) and fourth in field-goal percentage (51.6%) in all games. In conference games, he was first in 3-point and free-throw percentages (43.4%, 85.2%) and second in field-goal percentage (54.5%).Â
Rodl scored in double figures in all 25 games for the Judges, reaching 20 points or more 20 times with a 33-point performance against Carnegie Mellon on Feb. 6 and a 41-point game against Washington University on Feb. 22 in his final home contest. The game against the Bears was Brandeis's highest scoring game since 1992 and one of only 42 games in Division III with more than 40 points scored by an individual.Â
Rodl finished his career with 983 points in a Brandeis uniform in just two seasons, reaching 1,000 for his career in his 41-point game against WashU, as he had scored 56 points in two seasons at Division II St. Anselm.
Zakheim had a terrific sophomore campaign, one of only two sophomores named to the All-UAA team, and one of just four returning players. Zakheim finished sixth in the league and 121st in Division III in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game and making him and Rodl the top scoring duo in the league. His 18.2 points per game in conference play was also sixth. Zahkeim finished seventh in the UAA in field goal percentage (48.8%) and fourth in free-throw percentage (82.4%).Â
Zakheim also led the Judges in assists, ranking sixth in the UAA at 3.8 helpers per game, 3.6 in league games. He finished 133rd nationally in assists per game.Â
Zakheim scored in double figures in all but three games this season, going for at least 20 in 11 contests, including a career-high 30 points against Clark University on Nov. 25th in non-league play. He led the Judges in scoring seven times and in assists 13 times.
Zakheim will be the top returning scorer in the UAA next season. His 455 points this year were the 27th-most in school history, and he will enter the 2026-27 campaign with 573 career points.Â
The Brandeis men's basketball team finished the year with a 13-12 record, 6-8 in the UAA, in their seventh season under head coach
Jean Bain.Â
