CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field teams concluded their regular season on Thursday evening at the MIT Final Qualifier in Cambridge. The Judges improved on a couple of season bests in their hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships.
RIEDEN MOVES UP
- The evening's most significant performance came from junior Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) in the 800-meter run.
- An All-American in the fall season, Rieden ran a season-best mark of 1:50.68 to finish seventh in the race and fifth among Division III competitors.
- He moved into 27th place on the NCAA qualifying list, up five spots from his previous best time.
- Rieden is five spots out of a berth at the NCAAs. Last year, classmate TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) was selected to the championships in 25th place.
SENIORS WRAP CAREER WITH PRs
- Three Brandeis seniors ran the final races of their career. Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) was 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.42 seconds.
- In the 1,500-meter run, Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass./Andover) and Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) were 14th and 15th, respectively, with times of 4:47.86 and 4:53.43.
- All three times were personal-bests
MORE 200-METER RUNNERS AND PRS
- First-years Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) and Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School) competed in the 200-meter dash as well.
- Leroy placed eighth in 25.39 seconds, while Sealy was 10th in 25.96 seconds.
- Sophomore Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) turned in a PR in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.73, good for eighth place.
FIELD EVENTS
- In the women's high jump, sophomore Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) came in fifth with a height of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch).
- Junior Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo./Ralston Valley) was seventh in the pole vault at 3.53 meters (11 feet, 7 inches).
- Classmate Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan/Phillips Exeter Academy) was 11th in the hammer throw at 45.25 meters (148 feet, 5 inches).
- On the men's side, junior Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C./Woodside Priory School) was fifth in the long jump at 6.70 meters (21 feet, 11 ¾ inches). He was also 10th on the track in the 200-meter dash in 22.40 seconds. Both performances were PRs.
- Sophomores Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Regional) and Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman) were each 10th in the discus and javelin, respectively. Laurin threw 40.47 meters (132 feet, 9 inches), while Krause's distance was 53.35 meters (175 feet, 0 inches).
UP NEXT
- The field for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Friday evening. The Judges will have at least two qualifiers in Sealy, who is ranked second in the triple jump, and Leroy, who is fourth in the 400-meter dash. Rieden will await his fate with the NCAA release.
