WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University track and field teams had a pair of All-University Athletic Association performances from senior
Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan / Phillips Exeter Academy) and sophomore
Sarai Sealy (New York, N.Y./Ursuline School), among several scoring performances on Day 1 of the 2026 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at home in the Gosman Athletic Center.
ALL-ASSOCIATION HONORS
- Liu earned All-Association honors for the second time overall and the first time during the indoor season with a third-place finish in the 20-pound weight throw.
- She threw a personal-best by about three-quarters of a meter with a distance of 15.53 meters (50-11 ½) on her third attempt. Liu finished second by about a foot, but bested the fourth-place finisher by more than three feet.Â
- Liu is Brandeis's first All-UAA performer in the 20-pound weight throw since 2019, when Jordin Carter '20 achieved the feat.
- Sealy was named All-UAA for the third time in her career, and first in the long jump. She was honored twice in the triple jump last year, both indoors and outdoors, when she was the UAA Indoor Rookie of the Year.
- Sealy placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.44 meters (17-1 ¼) on her final jump. Sealy was seventh of nine jumpers to reach the finals, but improved two spots on each of her first two leaps before her final finish.Â
- She will go on to try to defend her 2025 title in the triple jump tomorrow.
OTHER SCORING PERFORMANCES TODAY
- Individual scorers today, placing among the top eight, included senior Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo. / Ralston Valley) in the pole vault, who was fifth with a height of 3.46 meters (11-4 ¾).
- On the men's side, senior Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School) was sixth in the long jump at 6.46 meters (21-2 ½), while junior Michael Laurin (Concord, Mass / Concord-Carlisle Regional) was seventh in the weight throw at 14.40 meters (47-3).Â
- Both Brandeis distance medley relay teams finished in sixth place. For the women, it was the team of first-year Melissa Keenan (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick), junior Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield North), senior Ella Warkentine (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) and junior Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor), who posted a time of 12:17.81.Â
- For the men, seniors Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) and Adam Rieden (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) were joined by sophomore James Waters (North Merrick, N.Y. / Wellington C. Mepham) and junior Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass. / BC High), with a time of 10:31.49.
ADVANCING TO TOMORROW'S FINALS
- The Judges had two events that saw their competitors turn in the second-best time in prelim races and five total advance to tomorrow's finals.
- For the women, sophomore Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School) was second in the 400-meter dash, lowering her school record in the event to 56.54 seconds. She was 0.14 seconds behind the top spot.Â
- Garret Rieden won his heat in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.17. He had the fourth-fastest time but will earn a preferred spot in the finals with his prelim win.Â
- The Judges sent two runners to the finals in the 200-meter dash, where first-year Izzy Ross (Holliston, Mass. / Holliston) was joined by Leroy in the last two spots in the finals with times of 26.14 seconds and 26.20 seconds, respectively. Leroy edged her way into the finals by two-hundredths of a second.Â
- First-year JJ Fleming (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) claimed the last spot in the finals out of a prelim in the men's 200-meter dash, posting a time of 22.96 seconds, good for seventh place.

- The UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships continue tomorrow at the Gosman Athletic Center, with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events at noon.Â
