Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team saw seven sets decided by two or fewer games, but the Judges ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 match against University Athletic Association rivals New York University today in the Big Apple.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis got off to a 1-0 start by claiming the doubles point despite dropping a 3-6 decision at #1.
  • Sophomore Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and first-year Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) won 6-2 at #2, while sophomore Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) and first-year Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas/Austin Tennis Academy College Prep) won 6-3 at #3.
  • In singles action, Wang-Fan earned Brandeis's second point, 6-1, 6-4, at #5, while Kotzen took a 6-4, 6-4 decision at #6.
  • At the top of the order, NYU prevailed at the top four spots. They won by identical scores of 6-3, 6-4, at #1 and #2. At #4, it was a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win, bringing the decisive match to #3.
  • There, the Violets' #3 player outlasted Garbett, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), to give the home team the win, which will help determine seeding in the UAA tournament at the end of the season.
  • The loss snaps a three-match winning streak for the Judges.

  • The Judges return to action next Saturday at 9 a.m. when they play host to Southwestern University out of Texas.
