Shemesh shines at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team opened its 2026-27 season over the weekend at the MIT Invitational. The Judges were led by junior Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hey School Modiin), who won five of his six matches over the weekend.
  • Playing #1, Shemesh was perfect in singles, including four tiebreaker wins. He defeated opponents from host MIT, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-7; Amherst College, 7-6, 6-3; and Bowdoin College. 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
  • Shemesh also went 2-1 in doubles action alongside senior Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Richmond Green Second School), winning at #3 against Bowdoin, 7-5, and splitting #2 matches against Tufts, with an 8-6 win and an 8-2 loss.
  • First-year Jonah Stolte (Overland Park, Kans. / Blue Valley West) had a pair of singles wins in his first collegiate action. After dropping his opener at #4 against MIT, he earned a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6, win over Amherst at #6 and 6-4, 6-4, win over Bowdoin at #5.
  • Stolte and junior Benjamin Kotzen (Austin, Texas / Austin Tennis Academy College Prep) were 8-7 (7-3) doubles winners at #3 against Amherst. Kotzen also picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6, win at #6 singles against Bowdoin.
  • The Judges' best doubles performance came against Bowdoin. In addition to Shemesh and Dong winning at #3, senior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) and junior Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Bill Crothers Secondary School) won 7-6 (7-4) at #1 and grad student Alexander Georgiev (Boca Raton, Fla. / Florida Atlantic Univ. High School) and junior David Wang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai United International School) won at #4, 6-4.
