WALTHAM, Mass. -- Three Brandeis University soccer players have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region II teams. For the men, senior
Rainer Osselmann-Chai of
Acton, Massachusetts, was a first-team All-Region selection at midfield, while classmate
Nico Beninda of
Monroe Township, New Jersey, was a third-team selection, also at midfield. For the Brandeis women, sophomore
Peterly Leroy of
Malden, Massachusetts, was named a third-team forward.
Osselmann-Chai is honored by the United Soccer Coaches for the second time in his career. He was a second-team selection as a junior. Previously, Osselmann-Chai earned first-team All-University Athletic Association honors for the fourth time. Osselmann-Chai was the Judges' second-leading scorer this season, with four goals and three assists for 11 points. He contributed an assist in a UAA win over the University of Rochester on Oct. 18 and a goal in a 3-2 loss to the University of Chicago on Nov. 2, when the Judges rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game. He also contributed goals in non-conference wins over Coast Guard and MIT and in a 3-3 draw with Wheaton (Mass.) For his career, Osselmann-Chai has 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 points, with three game-winning goals.
Beninda earns third-team All-Region honors for the second year in a row. He was previously named to the All-UAA second team. Beninda was the team's leading scorer this season with six goals and two assists for 14 points. In conference action, he delivered an assist in a 1-1 draw with NYU. Against non-conference opponents, Beninda delivered game-winning goals against Suffolk, Bridgewater State, and Anna Maria, while also scoring against NCAA tournament teams Babson and Wheaton (Mass.). He also scored an equalizing goal for the Judges in the team's 2-1 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championships. For his career, Beninda tallied 14 goals with eight assists for 36 points, with four game-winning goals.
Osselmann-Chai and Beninda helped the Judges reach as high as #5 in Division III this season before finishing with a 10-4-5 record and the program's first trip to the NCAA Division III tournament since 2017. After defeating Stevens, 2-1, in the first round, the Judges took top overall seed Tufts to double overtime before falling, 1-0.
Leroy receives All-Region honors in soccer for the first time, having previously been recognized as an All-Region performer in the 400-meter dash during the track and field season. Leroy, who earned second-team All-UAA honors, was tied as the Judges' leading scorer this season with five goals and an assist for 11 points. In league play, she scored a goal in the team's 1-1 draw with Carnegie Mellon on Oct. 26. She also drew a penalty kick against Emory on Oct. 11 with the Judges trailing, 1-0. Leroy posted two goals against Clark University, a goal and an assist against Bridgewater State and a goal against UMass Boston in non-conference action. She will enter her junior season with nine goals and three assists for 21 points
Leroy and the Brandeis women were ranked as high as #8 in Division III this season after going 7-1-3 in their first 11 contests. They ended their regular season with an 8-5-4 record, just missing out on the NCAA Division III tournament. Nine of their 17 opponents reached the postseason, with the Judges earning two wins and two draws against those foes. Three of those foes from the University Athletic Association are playing in this weekend's Division III Final Four.
Osselmann-Chai is a 2022 graduate of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School.
Beninda is a 2022 graduate of Monroe Township High School.
Leroy is a 2024 graduate of Prospect Hill Academy Charter School.
