X-country teams take third in season-opening meet at Wheaton

ATTLEBORO, MA – Brandeis Cross Country ventured out of Attleboro today for the Wheaton & Babson season opener meet hosted by Suffolk. . The men came in 3rd out of 9 teams with 94 points. They were behind only a pair of Division I schools - Holy Cross (1st) and Stonehill (2nd) - while beating out Bridgewater State in 4th. The women placed 3rd out of 8 teams with 82 points. They came behind Suffolk and winning team D1 Holy Cross, but defeated 4th place team Stonehill, another Division 1 team. The Judges will be hosting the University Athletic Association Championships at this course later this season.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior captain Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) came in 10th place with his time of 16:15.6. He earned a 5K XC PR, also beating his track 5000 PR by almost 15 seconds.
•  Sophomore TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) ran 16:23.31 for 14th place, also earning himself a 5K PR.
• Senior Henry Nguyen  (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Vocational Tech) also earned a 5K XC PR with his time of 16:29.95 for 17th place. Closing out that pack was junior Rob King (Clarksville, Md. /River Hill) 16:41.57 for 20th place and yet another 5K PR.
• Lastly, First-Year Parker Cook (Old Saybrook, Conn. /Old Saybrook) made a splash in his first collegiate cross country race 16:52.96 for 36th place. 
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Junior Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) earned 8th place with her time of 11:58.79.
• Senior captain Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) ran 12:04.75 for 17th place. 
• Senior Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J. / Jefferson Township) and senior captain Zada Forde (Amherst, Mass / Amherst) finished less than a second apart in 12:14.56 and 12:14.70, respectively ,for 20th and 21st places. 
• Finally, sophomore Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine / Bangor) earned 25th place with her time of 12:18.39.
 
Next Up: The Judges race again in 3 weeks on September 21st for the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
