Rieden finishes as 800m runner-up at New England D3 Championships

SOUTH HADLEY, MA — The Judges competed at Mount Holyoke College this weekend for the D3 New England Track and Field Outdoor Championships. The women placed 18th with 17 points, tied with William's College. The men placed 21st with 20 points, between Trinity College and Fitchburg State. The Judges saw many PRs, top 5 finishes, and improvements in the National DIII Rankings, with eight All-Region performances.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • On the men's side, the Judges' top performance was in the 800-meter run, where sophomore Garret Rieden (Littleton, Mass. / Littleton) earned yet another PR and took 2nd place in the 800 with his time of 1:51.15. This moved him up to #25 in DIII. Sophomore TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) was right behind in 3rd with a season-best time of 1:51.29, putting him at #28 in DIII. The top 22 qualify for the NCAA Championships. It was Rieden's first All-New England honor and the second for Carleo, who won the title in 2024.
  • Junior Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) placed 5th in steeplechase with his PR time of 9:28.90 to earn his first career All-Region honor. Junior Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) also earned a PR of 9:42.07 for 9th place.
  • In his decathlon, sophomore TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) had multiple top 5 finishes. He ran 17.23 seconds in 110-meter hurdles for 5th place, threw 30.91 meters in discus for 3rd place, and threw 42.07 meters in Javelin for 4th place. Showstead earned All New-England honors again when he finished with a score of  5179 points, finishing in seventh place, a 33-point improvement from last season at New Englands.
  • First-year Sam Krause (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman) placed 14th in Javelin with his throw of 52.00 meters.
  • The 4x800 team placed 9th with a season best time of 7:58.88. The team consisted of sophomore Adam Rieden (Littleton, Mass. / Littleton), junior Spencer Lee (Great Neck, N.Y./William A. Shine Great Neck South), senior Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Vocational Tech), and senior Willem Goff (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional .

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) ran 14.61 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles for 4th place, earning another PR and lowering her own school record for the second weekend in a row, this time shaving 0.24 seconds off the mark. Campbell moved up to #33 in all of DIII and qualified for finals. In the finals, she ran 14.99 seconds for 6th place. Campbell also earned a 200-meter PR of 25.82 seconds for 13th place. Campbell's All-New England honor was the second of her career as an individual.
  • Sophomore Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) jumped 11.60 meters in the triple jump for 2nd place, tying her PR and turning in the Judges' highest finish of the meet on the women's side. This was Nugent's first All-New England honor.
  • The 4x400 team placed 5th, running 3:59.46. The team consisted of Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos), senior Elizabeth Korn (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), Campbell, and senior Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass./Belmont).
  • Zarzycki ran 1:05.81 for 8th place in the 400-meter hurdles for her first individual All-New England performance. Bohbot-Dridi ran a PR of 1:06.63 for 13th place. Lastly, first-year Natalie Liapis (Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield North) ran 1:07.63 for 16th place.
  • The 4x800 team ran a season-best with a time of 9:47.11 for 8th place. The team consisted of junior Kayla Dibenedetto (Andover, Mass / Andover), senior Lizzy Reynolds (Winchester, Mass./ Winchester), junior Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South), and sophomore Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga).
  • Senior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx H.S. of Science) and sophomore Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo. / Ralston Valley) tied for 10th in the pole vault with their jumps of 3.38 meters.
  • Juniors Anna Batelli (Oak Ridge, N.J. / Jefferson Township) and Kyra Au each earned a 1 second PR in the 5k. Batelli ran 18:28.17 for 13th place, and Au ran 18:33.81 for 16th place.
  • Sophomore Emma Liu (Taipei, Taiwan / Phillips Exeter Academy) earned a PR and 15th place in the hammer throw with her throw of 41.54 meters.  
NEXT UP – Some of the Judges will continue their season next weekend at NEICAAA Championships at Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
