WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore
TJ Carleo of
Newburyport, Massachusetts, has earned his third-straight bid to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, earning a trip to the 2024 outdoor meet in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in the 800-meter run.
Carleo earned the 22
nd and final bid to the championships in the event. He was ranked 25
th in Division III with a season-best time of 1:50.38, run at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza at Williams College on May 10. With three competitors ranked ahead of him choosing to focus on other events, Carleo earned his second career trip to the NCAA outdoor championships in the 800-meters, along with a berth at this year's indoor meet.
Carleo just edged out teammate and classmate
Garret Rieden of
Littleton, Massachusetts, for the final berth. Carleo defeated Rieden by 0.01 seconds at the meet at Williams.
Carleo will look to improve on his performance at the last two NCAA meets, when he finished in 18
th place each time.
The meet will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach. The men's 800-meter run preliminaries will be held at 6:15 p.m. on May 24
th, with the finals at 6 p.m. on May 25
th.
Carleo is a 2022 graduate of Newburyport High School.
