MEDFORD, MA- The Brandeis Judges Track and Field team returned to the action today at Tufts University for the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational. The women placed 4th with 62.5 points, 14.5 points behind Connecticut College. The men placed 7th with 28 points, 3 points behind Suffolk.
The Women's 4x200 earned an early victory with a time of 1:48.32. Senior Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass./Belmont), junior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif./ Los Altos), sophomore Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn. / Lawrence Academy) and anchor junior Kirsten Man (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) fended off Tufts in the final lap for a .1 second victory.
The women also put on a showing in triple jump, earning 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th places. Nugent won with a PR of 11.29 meters. First-year Sophie Segal (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Ardsley) made it to the finals and placed 6th with a PR of 10.06 meters. Sophomore Alisha Anderson (Denver, Colo. / Ralston Valley) was right behind in 7th with a PR of 10.3 meters.
The long jump also saw multiple PRs. On the men's team, junior Lin Lin Hutchinson (Portland, Ore. / Ida B. Wells) got a 0.53 meter PR in the long jump with 5.47 meters and sophomore TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) had a 0.43 meter PR with a distance of 5.32 meters. Sophomore Emma Liu (Las Vegas, Nev. / Phillips Exeter Academy) threw a weight throw PR of 13.44 meters, 0.56 meters better than her previous PR, putting her at 11th in the UAA.
On the track, Nugent won her heat of the 60-meter with a time of 8.45 seconds, followed by Junior Hailey Crane (Ovid, N.Y. / South Seneca) at 8.87 seconds, both earning PRs. Showstead ran a PR in the 60-meter hurdles in the preliminary with a time of 8.96 seconds, .01 seconds faster than his previous 8.97 seconds.
In the 3,000-meter run, junior Zada Forde (Amherst, Mass./ Amherst Regional) had a 21-second leap from last week's 3k time of 11:08 and earned 12th place. The rest of the Judges followed in 14-17th place, with first-year Shayna Zavell (Highland Park, Ill, / Highland Park) (14th, 11:26) and junior Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South), (15th, 11:32) earning themselves PRs.
On the men's side, first-year Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass. / BC High) earned 3rd place with a time of 9.01 in his debut college 3k. Senior Willem Goff (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional) had a 10 second pr and senior Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Vocational Tech) had a 13 second pr in 4th and 5th place with times of 9:05 and 9:08 respectively.
First-year Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine / Bangor) earned a PR in her first collegiate mile with a time 5:31. She finished in 11th, just after sophomore Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) who ran 5:28, a team season best. First-year Jonathan Wey (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) made strides in his first collegiate 800, running 2.02 for 3rd place, only 3 seconds off his high school PR.
The Judges Return next weekend for the Riverhawk Invitational at the New Balance Track.
